STAGING/WIDER CONTRIBUTION - REFLECTIVE SPACE & POST-SHOW TALK

Reflective Space:

Here is my poster from the reflection space after the festival week. I chose to represent the piece by using practice research photos that recreated the initial inspiration for the contribution and its themes.

Questions I Asked:

  • Were there any moments in the piece that you felt connections with the dancers on stage? How did their individual dynamics make you feel?
  • This piece explore the duality of the self, what did you notice about the relationship displayed on stage?
I think due to the time my piece was in the schedule, there was a smaller audience, most of which were family and friends of me and the other choreographer and dancers. So, I didn't end up getting much feedback about the actual questions I asked. One person did note the feeling of panic as Tilly started speeding up which was helpful to note as it meant our intended general intention got across to at least this person and the narrative had a heightened moment where I wanted it to.

There's also a note about the two of them coming together at the end which was nice to hear as the cyclical details of the work only really came into play in the past couple of weeks so it was nice to hear that the feeling of the symbiotic relationship we were trying to portray got across.

Post-Show Talk:

The post-show talk felt like a good way to expand upon the piece after the audience had time to digest and form their own perceptions of the relationship on stage. I had purposely left the marketing copy about the piece to be slightly ambiguous in terms of the research and inspiration behind it (how it came from influences of depersonalisation and layered photography) as the piece wasn't necessarily about those topics, we just drew from them to create tasks and influence how we formed the relationship on stage.

I took the post-show talk as a way to delve a bit deeper into these processes and give the audience more context into my perspective on the piece, I talked about the process as a whole, what sort of tasks we did and the timespan of creation.

Even though there weren't as many people there, we still got asked questions from a member of the public which was nice to know that they were interested in the process, that seemed to me as if the piece made them think which was reassuring with the piece being set out in a way to invite eternal perception.
