PRACTICE RESEARCH - TIMELINING THE PIECE 2
Following the editing of the music, I had to re-do my timeline as there was some space between the tracks that cut the runtime down by around 10 seconds and I wanted my timeline to be as accurate as possible. So I spent the few hours spare I had before our next rehearsal planning out the timings of sections to the songs to test out with my dancers. The timeline being accurate was especially important now because of Emily's injury as we had decided on her marking the movement this rehearsal and the timings might not line up as we test them. Me accurately placing the sections and making sure that at least Tilly's timings lined up with what I plotted will help to ensure we are productive and make progress in structuring the piece. I also scheduled our second rehearsal of the week to be on the Friday so Emily had the biggest gap possible in not doing the choreography to rest as much as she could. I also checked in with her as I was remaking the timeline on what she thought/how she was feeling and I plan on doing the same before Friday.
Timeline Version 2:
I basically finished plotting out the first song and ticked off what sections I have used so far. I also added some diagrams of what space they're using in each section to get an idea of how full the movement might look in the theatre space. Luckily both of my rehearsals this week are in bigger studios so I can test out the movement capacity and its breadth as well as if the movement at it's scale still fits to the timings I have from videos. The first song consists of the opening which establishes their relationship together as a unit, then a space for them to do their solo material that shows their individuality in energy and quality, that then brings them back together into the diagonal section that finishes the song.
I then also sketched out a bit of an idea as to how I want the second song to start that I'll try out with the dancers if we get time before I add it to the final timeline.
This method also gives me an idea of how I'm plotting out the narrative of hte piece, and what choreography works with the emotional intensity of each section and song. I know that I want to included the train of thought duets in the second song because of it's steady beat and that I've been working with the dancers on their interweaving and timing to that song so far. I also know that I want Tilly speeding up somewhere in the last song with enough time for a section of Emily dragging Tilly/carrying her weight after she's exhausted herself.
