STAGING/WIDER CONTRIBUTION - MARKETING COPY
"Superficial Thinking explores the duality of a person through internal and external perception; You the audience are an observer, seeing two sides of a mind from the outside. Through a contemporary dance duet, we invite you to perceive two sides of a self, and the interweaving relationship of their existence together."
I wanted this marketing copy to get across the general synopsis of the piece, but leave the narrative of the piece ambiguous to prompt audiences to think about how they're perceiving the dancers from an outside view but to be as uninfluenced by me and the marketing copy as possible.
The name for the piece was something I went back and forth on for a while but I went for Superficial Thinking. Superficial means surface-level and I wanted to play with a name that references the layers of a self, Superficial Thinking is slightly ironic in the piece's exploration of multiple layers of the self beyond what you see on the surface, but also makes sense in us bringing the different layers of a self to the surface for audiences to see. Thinking came from how we've worked with a lot of perception and how we think about and observe each other.
